There will probably be another version soon. I believe that I saw a newer version of either Chromium or Google Chrome, hence the likelihood of another update soon. I looked and it’s not available yet.

This search pageAfter installing the ungoogled chrome appimage on your system, you’ll notice Chrome disrespects your default Desktop design, putting e.g. the window border buttons to the wrong side, rendering it hard to work with this program. This disrespectfulness is because it is tailored for wayland, and enforces CSD. The default workaround for enforcing server side decorations is not respected by Chrome either: I have set up my system already like that:
1.) Install the package.
$ sudo apt-get install gtk3-nocsd2.) Append (if not present already) the two lines
GTK_CSD=0 LD_PRELOAD="/usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libgtk3-nocsd.so.0"to the file /etc/environment
3.) Restart the program.
But as said, Chrome disrespects even that, while it works fine for other programs like FileRoller, Firefox, Librewolf etc. Reason is: Chrome doesn’t use the GTK engine at all, but instead uses its homebrew “Aura” window manager engine.
Still, after many time consuming experiments I finally found the soulution within Chrome itself. It is flabbergasting simple, if you know where to look. The following procedure will fix the issue.
1.) After starting the appimage, within Chrome, click open the Settings menu.
2.) Therein open the section “Darstellung” *), and change the setting to “GTK theme”.
3.) Additionally, in the same section, scroll down to find a switch named “Titelleiste und Ränder des Systems verwenden” *) and turn it on.
The proper decorations and button positions will appear immediately, no longer on wrong side. (Shouldn’t this behaviour be the default!?)
Not sure whether this will be needed each time after replacing the appimage by a next updated version. Will see…*) Sorry, don’t know the proper translation to English used by the Chrome GUI. I tried to look it up in the .mo files within the appimage, but sadly there are none. Instead there are merely some brotli compressed pak files for each language, hard to dechiffre. So please find out on your own what these read in English. Should be something like “Presentation” and “Use Caption Strip and Edges of the System”

I couldn’t understand a few words, such as “Darstellung: it translated to “Representation”, but there’s no Ungoogled Chromium category or object by that name.
Maybe I’m just familiar with it; I set mine up the way I want it a long time ago and it generally allows me to use the same configuration; there should be another version coming out soon, so I’ll see if it alters things; typically for me if I access my own already configured settings, that takes care of it. Also, regarding “Ungoogled Chromium”, it’s like Chromium MINUS the numerous Google callbacks. It doesn’t remember as many things as a Google version does because it doesn’t track or retain cookie information, but the lean behavior and the easy configuration justify using it.
Librewolf is a similar thing for Firefox replacement; it doesn’t call back to Mozilla, Google or anyone else, but it DOES save stuff and it’s much heavier; the trade-off is that it *remembers* your stuff. The possible consequence is that some sniffing tool could probably dig and capture those details, especially if “the bad guys” either get on your system or intercept the communication. I don’t worry about that a lot.
While people can get information out of my stuff, there’s not too much they could take from me other than stealing stuff from my place; that’d be difficult; we have cameras all over the place and our main accessible entrance is staffed and locked when it isn’t. As mentioned, other doors are “watched”. So anyone wanting my “stuff” would be stealing my name and access to my assets – those aren’t large enough to bother choosing me, unless they get thousands of others at the same time! The chances of eventually being caught go WAY up when you do that.
ONCE I had a phone intrusion where someone was trying to get me in their “scheme” with a “small investment”. I “smelled wolf” in time, contacted my local police department, and an officer, who happened to be a friend of mine, was my local police contact. We got lucky and the idiot called me while he was present, so we tried to keep the guy on the line just long enough that the P.D. and telephone company, working together, could get a trace. They DID, and it was a Nigerian scam. They located that much, but with follow-up and national/international support, they eventually got more cases involving these individuals, which ultimately led to their capture. Meanwhile I reported my instance soon enough to prevent potential loss; NO LOSS.
The only OTHER time anything happened was that my local grocery store was compromised and my grocery card had my name. I was protected from loss in that too. Nothing else has ever led to any serious loss of information. My name has shown up a few times on free email breaks; as far as I know no losses have occurred.
I trust these resources to be a reasonable compromise between reasonable access and reasonable protection. ANY time we use a public service there is SOME risk; I feel it’s reasonable with both the Google and Mozilla ALTERNATIVES, much less confidence in the Google or Mozilla services because they’re selling advertising rights with our names associated with what we browse for, with, and traffic patterns.
I’m sure that Maps and things of that nature provide quite a bit that would be “revealing” to someone wanting to know our whereabouts and what we do!

This search page@Brian, In have added a screenshot above, so you can look up the proper translations to English in your Chrome version. Meanwhile I guess, “Darstellung” doesn’t translate to Presentation nor Representation here, but “Appearance” could be what we are looking for (What would be “Erscheinung”, “Erscheinungsbild”, not “Darstellung” in German). It could be that easy, if Google wouldn’t hide every translation away behind a proprietary file format, instead of using human readable po files (mo files can be disassembled to .po simply, while it is mostly impossible to access the content of these pak files in order to see what the original strings read. What the heck!?)

@Robin, does ungoogled chromium do anything better in this regard, or are they so busy just trying to rebuild their images that strip out “google” stuff that they haven’t done anything else?

Many thanks to @masinick who recommended Ungoogled Chromium to me as a lighweight and privacy oriented browser.
I downloaded the ungoogled-chromium-141.0.7390.54-1-x86_64.AppImage. Then:
$ shasum -a256 $HOME/Live-usb-storage/ungoogled-chromium-141.0.7390.54-1-x86_64.AppImage 3906934864d4a449ab48a7371e497e27a554c0322310b9f231de79afb44aae92 /home/demo/Live-usb-storage/ungoogled-chromium-141.0.7390.54-1-x86_64.AppImageI can’t find the shasums on github for the verification, but I suppose it’s OK, because it works. I’ve just ran:
$ chmod a+x $HOME/Live-usb-storage/ungoogled-chromium-141.0.7390.54-1-x86_64.AppImageTo start the browser, I click on the AppImage. Have you done something more? Have you installed it someway?
I added Chromium Update Notifier (0.3.1) & Privacy Badger (2025.9.5) as extensions without problem, but I don’t know what to do with UBlock, downloaded as zip and not as crx, so as to drag-and-drop it into the “Extensions”.
I chose Dark Mode via “Settings -> Appearance”, but not all the websites appear in dark (antiX-forum doesn’t).
