I suppose I should describe some other low hanging fruit too:
1) Desktop Icon Font Size: (inside rox-filer)
Menu > Filesystem > ROX-Filer > right-click > Options > Pinboard
(change your desktop icon font size here, albeit inside Rox-Filer option to initiate.)
2) Drive Mount Icon control:
Menu > Desktop > JWMdesk > Icon Manager
(controls left-edge gap, icon size, and spacing. Handy if you’ve used larger desktop icon fonts)
3) Font hinting and antialiasing:
Menu > Desktop > JWMdesk > Screen Font > Appearance
Be careful here, as some antialiasing and hinting may not be optimal. I usually leave as-is.
Update: Something is weird with this control making any changes from default. I might try to throw a band-aid on it by editing .Xdefaults with Xft and gtk-xft options.
FIX: Goofing around and testing/applying with the antialias and hinting *individually* puts you in a world of strangeness. Read the menu advice! In 2025 with modern monitors, you probably want these ALL checked *at the same time* before you restart X.
However, once successful, I DISabled automatic hinting. I left hintstyle at 1. Total restart/reboot of X too. Whew, thought I was losing my mind.
