Just looked into the S17alsa-utils runit-core script.
Looks quite complex for me to fully understand, but in the worse case we could use a wrapper to implement into both runit & dinit.
It is just a copy of the alsa-utils init script for sysvinit. It just loads or saves the alsa state config that calciumsodium is doing manually. It can be simplified further, but it works.
There are differences in how Debian and Arch work, so it is better to stick with what Debian already does and then adapt instead of trying to troubleshoot things that are not meant for Debian.
Sorry if this is a silly question, but wouldn’t it be more appropriate for alsa to have a proper stage 2 service file? The runit stage1 is generally unsupervised so IMHO it should just contain enough to reliably boot the system into stage2 where runit handles the services (???)
Look at the alsa-utils I linked above. It just loads and saves the alsa state. This process is what stage 1 and 3 are for in runit.
This is what the runit-service-boot-module has attempted & achieved so far, the runit-core service package can be totally removed & runit can be used either alone or in a mult-init antiX system .
You are replacing a working runit-core (inspired by voids core scripts) for something that does the same but inspired by Artix instead. In essence, it is the same thing with a different name. I separated the start and stop scripts over a year ago, added logging and kept the runit-core name. Never got into main.
I don’t want to enter a debate with you. Once anticapitalista gives his position on where things will go I will jump either to fix the boot modules or adapt the runit-core scripts.
