Hi, all!
I just tested antiX 25a1, live on my Dell dual core desktop (that I used to have on my office).
I selected kernel 6.6.
-The great stuff:
antiX 25 a1 booted great.
wi-fi works
sound works great out of the box.
suspend works extremely fast
on idle, system uses 0 – 1% of CPU power.
Opened Firefox, started playing YouTube: no video or audio problems.
antix Updater seems to work fine – the new apt interface makes the “pseudo-gui” look much better (unfortunately apt has to be better localized upstream)
NOTE: grub updates always scare the crap out of me. The TUI is not the best thing in the world, not intuitive for the average computer user…
apt did spit out a lot of encryption and .desktop errors (sorry, I failed to copy the message, I can try again, if needed).
-I thought someone reported that the “gtp” dependency that “antiX Finder” installs, when prompted by the user, did not work correctly. I tested it, finder seems to work great
The not so great stuff:
-I tried to install Libreoffice pt and deadbeef via “Package installer”: they fail. Tried installing deadbeef via apt, also fails (sources/ dependency problems).
-I think it does not use all the .desktop files I helped localize
-I think it does not include the newest android connect GUI script that was created and made available in the forum (the current one has problems connecting to some devices)
… and that’s it, in this initial test! 🙂
Suggestions:
– Include some extra scripts, made available by the community (hey, the hard work is already done): the newer android script and “conky manager”, as well as the zram GUI manager are tiny and offer a lot flexibility to the average user that can’t use the terminal or manually edit config files…
– I think that the “add desktop” script fails when not running in English. I did spend a lot of time trying to fix it, there are some suggested scripts available in the forum…
– I think LibreOffice was localized to pt-pt in the latest version, on a1 it’s only in English – is it by design?
Less important suggestion:
– Include a new wallpaper? I’m sure the community would help with that gladly!
I know it’s a very initial alpha, I’m just mentioning stuff that I think would improve the final version, simple touches- as is the system is already almost perfect. I tested for about 1 hour, no problems, other than the inability to install stuff…
I’m happy to be back on board again. I missed interacting with the community, this last couple of months.
