    Hi scruffyeagel,
    I think the scanner can be persuaded to work. I tried to post this morning, forum went weird then disappeared as did my EMail provider.
    Then on I had more than 8 hours without cable internet. Sorry for delay.

    According to this official SANE list, the Canon CanoScan LiDE 300 is fully
    supported out-of-the-box by an open-source driver:
