I selected sysVinit version when I found antiX at version 22 only because that name was familiar and runit was not. Ever since upgraded with apt, and I hope that could be possible with switching to runit version too. I have developer docker images in /var/Lib and I don’t even know what else in “root”, that would be quite a big work to move to a new install.
I checked websites of these mentioned 3 init programs, to me anything is good, and I don’t find “init diversity” a vital aim, considering amount of work needed by primarily one, or a few persons. I appreciate that! As I can see on runit site, it can even be installed on an existing system with replacing existing solution manually, so the community members can do such things maybe install their own sysV similarly, if they wish to.
Some software needed my own sysV init script, that I found in this forum and adjusted, so I’ll probably need to alter those for runit – no problem. (E.g. Stubby.)
But thinking about this, I’m afraid no direct upgrade path will be possible from a sysV system. Of course I’ll manage that too if necessary. Or maybe I should turn my system into a runit system FIRST (still on 23.2)…?
I think a solid distro version upgrade support would be very useful (not necessarily for sysV – runit, just in general). I think that would need a strong community support, to test on our totally different setups, in beta phase. (E.g. clone the PC to a new disk and try it?? I don’t know…)
