I tried to present the topic in a simple way. That’s why I’m using the images. The letters of the alphabet
represent the sequence of steps I take to successfully install the Xfce4 desktop. *** The
last images are only meant to show how and where to check in Thunar whether gvfs is working. Where to
check Thunar so that the USBs are mounted on the desktop. And the last image just shows
clearly that you shouldn’t forget to add what you want to start with it (for me,
it’s the xsct tool; I install it beforehand, and here I set it so that the start screen isn’t so bright).
I run Xfce4-antiX 25 (testing, after the updates probably also beta) and Xfce4-antix 25
init-diverzity, with dinit (testing).
Answering your two questions (AT THE TOP):
1) Yes, I do NOT install what you mentioned (xfce4, xfce4-whiskermenu-plugin, gome-disk-utility, tumbler, etc.)
right away; that is the third step. – In the first step, I install consolekit, with all its
dependencies, and with libpam-ck-connector. In the second step, I install gvfs. – It’s up to you which
terminal you use. – Gnome-disk-utility: I use antiX productively, as you intend to do. Many
people who use my software like gnome-disk-utility. And I like it too. That’s why I install
it. If you want to mount / unmount elsewhere, it’s again It’s entirely up to you. As far as I’m concerned,
I don’t like zzzfm.
2) Automount-antix didn’t work very well for me about two years ago with snapshot. And the
Xfce4 desktop doesn’t need it at all with my desktop settings. I haven’t experimented with it extensively.
I make my life easy. Because I want to avoid 100% competition interference, I delete
automount-antix with purge. You can choose your own path. … It’s similar with jwm. fluxbox,
herbstluftw. I don’t need it at all, so I delete it. But it can stay in the system, of course.
That’s all I can do to help. I would just say that you shouldn’t rely solely on theory.
Science says: it must be proven. A fitting impulse for us, right? Please install it, and
if you are as kind as always and write back to us to let us know if everything is working for you in the finished
installation, we will be delighted. * A respin for that? * That would be even better (Proton is also fine).
