The quote you shared from skidoo really highlights an important limitation of this script – that converting Full to Base through package removal alone cannot account for the edition-specific files, icons, scripts, and configurations that are injected during the ISO build process. This explains why some elements like the Software Installer icon might persist even after removing the associated packages.
This is ABSOLUTELY TRUE! I used to build most of my systems from Base; I don’t do it any more.
Sure, I know exactly what I want, but Full these days is much closer to my end goal than anything else.
A couple of years ago I used my own modifications to the procedure that @Christophe outlined, and created
another antiX Core image on one of my older systems. It went well, but as I’d go back and use it, again
I’d encounter little things that I simply appreciate in Full.
So here I am, one of the people able to understand and theoretically build any of the four alternatives.
1) I’d have a very difficult time building Net today; seven years ago we had Ethernet access here; those
wall plugs are decorations today; when we introduced 5G here, that option went away. Went to the nearby
university and also a library and encountered the same thing, so Net isn’t practical for me, and possibly
not even possible without searching high and low for Ethernet access points.
2) Core: I could do it again, but as I mentioned, I simply appreciate certain things these days and Full
provides them.
3) Base: once my starting point, pretty much lost that spot when I retired; it’s already been seven years!
I did try it again on the same system where I built Core; still works, but Full is my finely tuned instrument
these days!
