Thank you for your comments. These past few comments do come through clearly enough to realize that transactions and language “issues” introduce some really difficult matters of communication to overcome.
While on one hand I find it delightful to be able to communicate with people from so many different places and cultures, I can also understand and appreciate that I have not had to continuously struggle with language barriers.
To that end I would be willing – at least some of the time – to be the one having to translate from another language.
Some time ago I at least realized that I have to be more careful about expressions that do not translate well into another language and another culture. I do think, with effort, that even cultural expressions CAN be discussed and explained, but they tend to take much longer to clarify than things not involving slang or culture.
Anyway, I think it’s worth overcoming language and cultural barriers. As I’ve matured in years and experience, I’ve learned that the people, particularly people of vastly different organizations, origins, ethnicity, etcetera are well worth understanding. Frankly, in the long run such things are infinitely more valuable than the computers and software we use.
Our software and our community IS valuable, but it’s the people behind it that make it so, not the machines.
