I think my confusion about all of this came from this old post from April
where @anticapitalista said: “BTW – I have once again disabled forum registration.”

That was quite a while back; since then we’ve had problems getting the registration
working again, so when @anticapitalista returned, there were conversations
regarding our forum software, including renewal of our forum subscription,
and through that the topic of the registrations re-emerged, so the Web
admin collaborated with me, and when done with the fix, asked me to get it
checked. The past few posts confirm that this long lasting item has finally
been corrected. Thank you all for participating in the resolution of this
issue.
