Reply To: Gnome and Systemd devs damaging other distros

If they decide to enforce systemd in their programs, they encapsulate themselves from the rest of the Linux universe. Brian and PDP-8 have described that as kind of Vendor Lock-In accurately, even when it’s actually the other way around in this case: It is a “Vendor Lock-out“, while the idea of Linux is to give back to the rest of the community, not raising artificial barriers between distros. Really bad conduct, GNOME!

Well, given they actually enforce systemd in next program versions, besides FileRoller we’ll need replacements for:

gnome-ppp
Meld
Baobab
FontManager

which are part of antiX Control Centre currently.

Additionally we’ll have to replace the entries in the Package installer for

by something else or remove these, luckily mostly games only, simply from the install options.

Currently these (at least I can state this for the ones needed in Control Centre) do still work fine in antiX 23, so I’d say: Let’s see what actually happens, and whether they cease working some day by being turned unnecessarily into systemd-only programs.

Windows is like a submarine. Open a window and serious problems will start.
