    I solved this once by editing the /etc/network/interfaces to look like this

    #——————————————————————————
    # /etc/network/interfaces
    #
    # interfaces(5) file used by ifup(8) and ifdown(8)
    # Used by ceni but not by wicd
    #——————————————————————————

    auto lo
    iface lo inet loopback
