Just wondering if I install a new kernel and boot from it, might the next “apt update” change the list of upgradable packages?
in general, no. kernel versions don’t affect package versions most of the time. what @ProwlerGr mentions is an exception (never heard about this MX “story” or anything similar in Debian). you can use an older kernel with newer packages. (some newer kernel features that newer packages might use will be missing ofcourse), and the opposite (= older release with newer kernel).. kernel version is not a hard dependency for most (99%?) of available packages.
