I have some experience with Xen and it not a bad solution, however, the issues I have had with it was hardware support. I took three(?) runs at it over the last fifteen years and each time I ran into unsupported hardware and backed off. The last time was five years ago so things may have changed. Doubtful for there has not been a major release in fifteen years.
Assuming you have second computer, give it a go. If things go well, take a closer look at QubeOS. I love the idea of qubes and wouldn’t mind having one for proof-of-concepts and sandboxing or pen testing and such. Goofing off. 🙂
UPDATE: On piggypacking, this community is very tolerant to going off topic/tangents. However, you could have posted a new thread “Opinions on Xen hypervisor?” You would probably get more targeted views and potentially more responses. Also, helps future users find the post if they are seeking information on Xen. Something to consider next time.
