That area around Delaware, MI received 390 inches of snow in the Winter of 1978-1979. A spot just North of Calumet, MI nearby received 400 inches that same year, and the Houghton County Airport received 356 inches of snow, about what we got in Houghton, home of the university. Like it says above, 220 inches is probably typical, it’s passed 300 a couple of times since I graduated but that RECORD occurred the year I was flying around the country job hunting just prior to graduation! I even got stuck in a blizzard and was detained in Green Bay, Wisconsin for a day, and got back to Houghton on Sunday afternoon, just in time to get ready for the school week! Needless to say that wasn’t my top academic quarter; in fact my grades that quarter dropped me out of the honor role for the four year period; I later redid a couple of classes when I wasn’t under a school load and ACED them! (TOP GRADE).
No wonder I’ve followed the weather all these years! 🙂
