    the drive is mounted on media, can you see any content, you may need to use the file
    manager as root to see anything due permissions on ext 4.

    Were you able to use fsck?,
    I would not try and wipe the drive until all possibilitys have been attempted
    apart from the fact if it is really messed up you can not wipe it anyway.
