Thanks for that suggestion. I deleted the file, but the boot condition occurred just as before. In addition the deleted file was found to be present again, when I checked.
I would like to include the suggested boot line if there is some organised place where it can be put.
This laptop does not behave just as expected in certain ways that I thought may be related to the warning about the bios corruption. For example the start of message or cursor position moves at times while typing text into a buffer, resulting in the buffer text moving around, thus containing rubbish if not carefully watched. I am using English (GB) with a Spanish (ES) keyboard and a USB mouse which does not disable the finger pad and laptop buttons.
