    Okay, I guess correctly, you DO have IceWM 4.0 but the scripts did NOT work,
    so let’s break them down instead of using && between the commands.

    Just so we are 100% in agreement, you did indicate that IceWM 4.0 is current.
    Please run all of this while you are using IceWM. I noticed on the Conky
    command that it opened a subwindow. Let’s make sure that you are in a
    regular session, not a Virtual setup or networked in from elsewhere; those
    are variables we have no control over and they may be altering the results.

    So step 1: login to an IceWM session from your desktop computer or laptop
    computer, no other components involved.

    Step 2: run the following commands, one by one.

    echo "Alpha=0" >> ~/.icewm/preferences
tail ~/.icewm/preferences

    Make sure that Alpha=0 is the last line; if it isn’t, that’s the problem!

    icewm --rewrite-preferences
    This ought to put that value in action; check
    tail ~/.icewm/preferences
    again and Alpha=0 should definitely be the last line of that file.

    Step 3: IF ALL of this succeeds, now you should have success when you
    run:

    icewm --restart

    Alternatively, you can do it from the menu: in the Logout… there is also an option to restart IceWM; that is the same thing.
    Now it’ll work, but only if you complete each of these steps successfully. Based on your output, they did NOT run successfully in a physical, direct connection instance. If these directions run correctly, it WILL work, but it does assume it’s in a real machine, not some external or virtual machine. So either it was some other machine or the commands failed to function correctly.
