On Low RAM systems please upgrade whenever possible, Many EEPC models for example take 2 GB RAM, some 4.
If BIOS updates are available they will often bring improved performance.

Use ZRAM, there is a tool in antiXcontrol center for setup. SSD, gives a big boost in performance.
ZSWAP may also be useful if disk space is tight.
i agree with using UngoogledChromium Falcon, suggest Palemoon as a further alternative.

setup etc/hosts and uBlock plus Privacy Badger or localcdn to reduce system load through crappy ads
and we page telemetry.

ASUS Eee PC 1011PX is my favorite travel device, performance ok with antiX and a good keyboard.
