To simplify it, it currently provides a reliable way to track all user sessions (console, graphical & ssh)
But again, my question is why? To what end does it track user sessions? Is there a reason I should want to keep it to do that? Other than the user services (which I think I do understand now…and probably don’t want), what do I lose out on if I disable turnstiled?
Comparing turnstiled to elogind or consolekit or seatd really doesn’t help me understand any better because I don’t understand the point (again the “why” not the “how”) of any of those either. Try to put yourself in the shoes of someone who does not know these things.
