    Every time I login I get taken to a (more or less) blank landing page

    That is a normal forum quirk, easiest way around it is to make a bookmark for recent posts or whatever
    interests you.

    Maybe an admin can explain, I think landing page has to do with keeping out or irritating spammers and bots.
