Thanks! I’m surprised you don’t mention Asus. I was about to chuck my 64 bit ROG Asus G73jh 17″ notebook, (came with Windows 7 Pro in 2010) until I installed Ubuntu 24.04 LTS recently. It’s like I got a new laptop. Suddenly everything was possible again. I-7 quad core with 14 GB of Ram. It matches my Desktop Asus Maximus V Extreme which also has a quad core I-7 and 32 GB of Ram that I got in 2012, currently dual booting Windows 7 and Ubuntu. But I rarely go into Windows. Just that I have a need for Media center to regulate home entertainment system. I had a little Acer notebook once too. It was pretty neat, but I ended up selling it a while back. I usually sell my old pc stuff if I can’t do anything with it, and I was seriously considering selling the Gateway. But I am fascinated with AntiX on it, and am spending more time on it than anything! You’re right about the build quality.. It’s astonishing how heavy that little mid-tower unit is! I upgraded it with a hdd activity light and reset button which I put in a fdd opening cover back when I first got it. I never understood Gateway thinking that wasn’t necessary even back in 2002. I also got a good ATI video card. I only lately figured out how to get it to boot usb drives! I’m even buying a little dorm room style desk to put it all on so it’s more comfortable to continue tweaking..
antiX 26 Stephen Kapos 5.10.240-antiX.1-486-smp on a Pentium IV @ 2 Ghz and 2 GB of RAM. 2002 Gateway desktop. 140 GB hdd has "/" and 100 GB partition on 2nd drive has "/Home" using IceWM de. Dual booting with Ubuntu 10.04 LTS on another partition.
