I think this is yet another positive point in favour of using Xlibre.
The solution to performance issue with old(er) nVidia GPUs on two of my laptops was thanks to @Wallon, who pointed me to configuration to force GPU rendering instead of LLVM rendering.
Those nVidia based machines would have to remain on Xorg if not this solution. Now I do not see any reason for me to not move to XLibre across all laptops and therefore maintaining just one standard model instead of two. Moving to Xlibre across the board right after Easter unless some unexpected obstacle pops up…
I experienced some huge rendering performance gains on old machines, particularly with Thinkpad X61 Core2Duo from 2007, where under Xorg running Google Earth was not possible. Now with XLibre it finally works. This machine is for testing to test how far into the past XLibre can make weak laptops can be made usable with graphics rendering.
Another thing is that reading various posts, reportedly there will be regression of Xorg code back to the beginning of 2024 due to many bad patches applied since. I think bad unintentionally, perhaps carelessly, although some appear to be jumping to conclusion it was done in favor of Wayland. One way or the other Debian decided to fall back to Xorg state as it was in February 2024 for the next Debian Forky.
Not sure of the impact of such regression for antiX but at least XLibre is moving forward with improvements, not stepping back…
