Some new info: I tried starting antiX with sysvinit (I usually use the default runit.) I opened leafpad with a 1 sentence document. Went to print and lo & behold, there was a new printer showing! Beside the one I had installed, there was the printer’s self-identified presence. (how it’s listed in the router’s dhcp) If I selected the regular installed printer, I had the usual “gathering printer information” message with the grayed out “print” button. But if I selected the dhcp printer then it was ready to print immediately. So I clicked the print button, but then the printer went crazy and started printing about 30 pages before it jammed. Most of the pages had a line or two of jibberish. I had to turn off the printer, unjam it, and reboot the computer back into runit. Then everything was ok again. I might try the other inits and see what they do…
antiX 26 Stephen Kapos 5.10.240-antiX.1-486-smp on a Pentium IV @ 2 Ghz and 2 GB of RAM. 2002 Gateway desktop. 140 GB hdd has "/" and 100 GB partition on 2nd drive has "/Home" using IceWM de. Dual booting with Ubuntu 10.04 LTS on another partition.
