This thread just came in insanely helpful just now for me. Thanks to you all.
I had remastered a live system with a Liquorix 6.19 kernel. It was working at first; that is, the remastered system booted under the new kernel. However, afterwards whenever I enabled persist root, I’d get a strange overlayfs error, essentially bricking the install (or so it seemed.) I then tried booting without any persistence, which then worked.
From the info here, I was able to remove the old rootfs file, and then remaster over an installed 6.12 Debian kernel, which effectively solved the problem: I could persist-save and successfully boot into the system.
There are definitely a lot of tricks one can pick up along the way when working with antiX.
