    Thx @Xunzi_23! I hope we are getting nearer. What I did was download from Synaptic on antiX. I got version number 3.22.10+dfsg0-8.1 from debian/trixie/main i386 pkgs. According to the web link you gave me, that same version is shown and is from 2022. My printer dates back to 2003. The driver is actually excellent, and has lots of settings for all the features of my printer like double sided, networked, memory etc. plus toner level and paper source. Here’s a shot of the HP toolbox over my leafpad document showing the printer’s uri.

    The printer installed from synaptic with no issues and was automatically in the menus etc. Hope this info helps!

    antiX 26 Stephen Kapos 5.10.240-antiX.1-486-smp on a Pentium IV @ 2 Ghz and 2 GB of RAM. 2002 Gateway desktop. 140 GB hdd has "/" and 100 GB partition on 2nd drive has "/Home" using IceWM de. Dual booting with Ubuntu 10.04 LTS on another partition.
