    The kernel on 32-bit antix-26 ISOs is the “486” version, which I think mostly indicates that it’s non-PAE.

    It’s worth noting that even though Debian labels 32-bit packages “i386,” this is for some historical reason and in fact the i386 packages are built with an i686 target, which means Pentium Pro or newer. I’m not sure if that could be the cause of your kernel panic, but it means that even if you get past any hurdles with the kernel, userspace is likely to just not work or at least be very difficult.

    I believe Alpine Linux’s 32-bit does target i586, so that might be a place to look. Or maybe one of the *BSD flavors?
