I don’t see a big problem that Synaptic doesn’t start with a shortcut in Live because of “su-to-root -X -c” in the run command. I’ll fix it.
If it was just Synaptic then it would not be much of a problem, but almost any gui function which requires authentication, such authentication fails. This is not a criticism, just some more development is needed to make it a smooth experience, although these can be done in the terminal, where authentication works, such as mentioned earlier Synaptic. I think this issue might not be experienced after this system has been traditionally installed, but it is the strength of Live system of antiX and MX, which sets these apart from other Linux distributions.
Other things I noticed:
– Where is Remaster (this is a critical function)? I could not find it among MX tools, where in MX is expected. I was able to start it from terminal using ‘live-remaster’ but considering it is one most important function, it should be in a visible place.
– Where is Dinit Service Manager? I could not find it. In antiX it is in expectable place in the Control Centre.
– Some other functions expected in the MX Control Center do not seem to be there.
The above are examples.
In general, I am impressed with this project.
It seems to combine the best aspects from two worlds – MX and antiX. From MX the advanced hardware support (ahs) and the latest Liquorix kernel, that goes along with ahs, while from antiX adopting nosystemd/no-elogind approach. I am thinking of using your respin as base for the best composition of light and powerful. Live tools are the must part, as this is what is the unique about antiX and MX advantage over anything else out there…
I will continue experimenting with this project, trying to execute from terminal functions where authentication fails from gui. Just not sure how to get to the dinit service manager yet, but there must be a way, I just have to find it.
