How do we prevent malicious activity or accidental misoperations by inexperienced users?
Luckily we have no issues with that currently, so the translations in most languages are freely accessible. If we find abuse some day in future, it will be necessary to simply add the review step the transifex workflow provides, so translations can initially still be created by everyone joining the project at transifex, but once they are reviewed, only a few people in the role of reviewers and above can modify them.
So why is access control still needed?
The access control in the testing area is needed there not for translating, but for creating new resources and getting access to administrative tasks. It is not different from the other areas, but this is the place to experiment and learn how to do things.
Btw, we have a convention to mark all resource uploads in the test area explicitly as TEST, so users receiving an email notification won’t get confused with the productive areas.

Thanks for the account data, I have added you to the maintainers group at transifex antix-community-contributions/antix-contribs-testing space already. But you should edit your posting and remove the email address from it immediately, otherwise you will most likely receive lots of spam. It is never a good idea to publish an email address openly in the internet. You should have used the PM either at transifex or here in forum for submitting.
