In fact, a 10% market share still leaves room for recovery. What’s truly hopeless is a mere 1% share like Windows Phone—no profit margins to speak of, impossible to turn around no matter what.

Look at our antiX: it has a “minuscule market share”; even many Linux publications rarely, if ever even mention us, and yet all of us here know how absolutely important our distribution is! I took immediate attention the first time I actually saw the antiX project in action. It turned out to be the precise type of system I was looking for: better tools than almost all distributions, lots of executable scripts and tools – and this point was probably what attracted me, combined with the light footprint so that I could run it – initially either from a CD or installed on a system.
Turned out that the first year we became a known distribution, 2007, was also a year that I was going to a laundromat as opposed to using my own washer and dryer. Therefore, I brought a laptop with me, partly to have something to do rather than “read a book or magazine” while I waited to change loads from the washer to the dryer, then to pack everything up as neatly as possible to avoid wrinkles. In those days WiFi wasn’t all that prevalent, though it was sometimes available, but there WERE Ethernet ports in the typical washing locations. These days, if you go to similar places – I do so on rare occasions to wash heavy bed blankets, but now we typically have 5G WiFi available; again antiX delivers!
