Yes, you’re absolutely right, both are package managers. But one uses a graphical interface and the other uses a text interface.
The difference is immediately clear when hoovering with the mouse over the entries; the tooltip reveals which actual tool is behind each of them, just like for many other entries in antiX Control Centre. Moreover they have completely different icons. No risk of confusion.
I need you to know that I took care to translate the antiX Control Center options using the same terms I used in the “antiX 23 Desktop Files” resource to ensure there was no ambiguity or risk of confusion. But these two cases are the only ones that are ambiguous.
I ask that you reconsider and that if you ever update the antiX Control Center, you differentiate them directly in the entries by renaming them to “Synaptic Manage Packages” and “CLI aptiX Manage Packages”. That is, you will leave it to the volunteer translator to individualize each of the options or to keep both options with generic names.
A similar example is the “OK” button, as I never know where it will be used. Therefore, I have no way of guessing if “OK” means “Continue the action” or “Agree with the action”, or even if “OK” means “The message can be closed”, etc.
Not having freedom of choice is always the worst option.
