I like SysVinit and OpenRC, S6 is too complicated and I’ve had problems with it, Runit is too simple and….. there is Dinit with more functionality and is more convenient than Runit. As a result, OpenRC or Dinit. Dinit is faster.))
Although I am not nearly as knowledgeable in these inits and not familiar with Open-rc at all, I think I came to the same conclusion based on my testing experience. Dinit it is. More sophisticated than runit, it has dependency specification and still simple as it seems to me. Unlike S6, which I also noticed seems too complicated with all that concept of generating db, which seems an overkill imho.
I am trying to make dinit work for me in antiX and it seems I nailed down the issue to handling lightdm, so hunting various dinit specifications on the internet,
Tried:
– Specifying lightdm service in /etc/dinit.d as type=bgprocess, instead of process. This did not help. Still stops with blinking cursor in top left.
– Tried to model lightdm service after your specification of slimski, namely type = process -nodaemon -z -i
Now no blinking cursor but dumps me at command prompt to login and startx.
Looks like dinit lightdm service specification on antiX 26 still eludes me…
