I was going through a few of my “older” USB Flash Drives this morning. My “super old” ones are in the bottom of a fairly small plastic box; the newer of them are on the outside top of the box – it’s here that this is one of the “older” ones, though actually still this year: it’s a snapshot of the antiX 26 RC 1 image, which, like my released version, has all of my own customization in it.
I find it interesting, because over the past 2-3 months I’ve made a number of small changes to my .bashrc file, indicative that I’ve removed a couple of the many text editors I was carrying back when I was investigating a whopping 50 different text editors! I only retained a few of them, but I’ve found that I really didn’t use a few of them very often, so I decided to get rid of them. Anyway, even though the original image is only 3 to 4 months old, my alias names have changed; short as they were, I found ways to further shorten a few of them so I have even more one letter alias entries; this allows me to start a lot of programs directly from the terminal without having to type a lot of characters; though I write often, I’m actually a rather poor typist, especially considering how many years it’s been since I learned to type – that was in 9th grade and I got one of my few POOR grades in typing – a “D” grade, which really tarnished an otherwise very strong 9th grade report card year!
So given all of that, I decided to give this thing a whirl today, update it similar to my antiX 26 Full image and see how it compares and the answer is that it does pretty well; it runs about as well as any other Live USB Flash Drive image. I updated pinxi so here’s the information report below, using my mem.bash script, which I call using mw (m is used instead of the “more” command):
