designed to be buggy by design, incompatible document format.
I have some doubts about this project- It’s devs lied when they stated with out be the first European open source suite… They had problems with the license… and sticking with MS file formats by default is really NOT the way to be independent from MS.
It’s great that they try to have the best support possible to reading and saving those not independent file formats- because we leave in a world where “MS WORD” is synonymous with “Word Processor”. We have to help “normies” bring all their text documents to open file formats AND help them share documents with other normies that stick with MS.
That said… Yes… They really have to ponder some important details like that… But I hope that this is a good faith effort to ditch MS across all EU.
They could have forked LibreOffice. I guess they went with OnlyOffice because it has better support for MS documents (and that is a big thing in the real world).
In the long term… EU will mandate only open file formats ( .pdf is already a de facto standard – in in many places, like Portugal, a legal standard – in read only oficial court documents and published laws, etc.)
