I do. I created images, or retouched them, or fixed old pictures using GIMP. I’ve never used Photoshop. But professionals require some features that it has, many times their clients want files created in PS. Professionals can’t just say, “no, take my work in this file format that you’ve never seen before” or “take my work that was created in GIMP and exported to PS file format with some missing features”.
I’m a pragmatic guy.
For private use, GIMP is more than enough (really, most times, it’s overkill). In many work settings, GIMP is ideal. But in some settings, forcing it’s use can end up bankrupting professionals.
The best way to bring people over to the FOSS world, is trying to offer what they are used to/ know how to work/ think they need. EX: If an hardcore gamer wants to play Civilization VII and it does not run in Linux, we can’t just say “Play FreeCiv, it’s the same thing”. It’s not. It’s the same kind of software (Game, in this analogy), but not the same exact thing. So, ideally, we should try to make as many apps and games run as well as possible in Linux.
Most people should be more worried because they are running a OS that is, in fact, spyware, than running apps that have virus. That’s my take on it, at least.
