With rofi I just edit the theme file its self and I use Monokai.rasi Which is found at /usr/share/rofi/themes copy a backup first. with Deb10 anyway
You can change themes on the fly by typing theme or rofi then select run rofi-theme-selector scroll down to the theme you wish to use press enter to preview the theme or ALT-a to use that theme.
I edit the theme as root with vim or geany that way the next time I open rofi the change is already done and I don’t loose my way with the last line that I have just edited. On the fly so to speak..
You can also edit your rofi from your .config file as like this line of code (## bindsym $mod+d exec rofi -opacity “85” window -show combi) from my i3 you can find more about this on the web.
Also from your .Xresources file more on the web..
