As for me, iwconfig gives not less, but even more information than iw:

$ iwconfig
wlan0     IEEE 802.11  ESSID:<filtered by me>

          Rx invalid nwid:0  Rx invalid crypt:0  Rx invalid frag:0
          Tx excessive retries:0  Invalid misc:0   Missed beacon:0

and

$ iw dev wlan0 link
Connected to <filtered by me> (on wlan0)
	SSID: <filtered by me>
	freq: 2447
	signal: -58 dBm
	tx bitrate: 72.0 MBit/s

Do not pay attention on bitrate, it may change between measures.
My iw has the same version – 5.0.1-1.
