It seems that the /usr/share/wallpapers directory that is used as the default directory also has sub-directories. It seems that the wallpaper app was trying to set a one of these sub-directories as a wallpaper. Fix should be available soon.
There was an update and indeed, I no longer get that error.
But now from time to time I get no picture on the desktop:
