If your gear can run icecat. Why not? I run Sea Monkey when the gear calls for it. No body tells me how to drive my motorcycles or drive gnu/linux.
Road conditions do though.????
Edit: for the noob part Duck duck go, startpage, plus other search engines. Keep my paranoia at bay. Then Firefox has this also

I wrote about this once already today in another thread, but I think you covered the essence of it today too.
“Safe mode” and ” New Private Window ” will offer sufficient additional protection that the average “bad guy” will go after EASIER catches than to bother most of us – UNLESS they see BIG MONEY in something we are doing, using, or have that we’ve discussed or searched on the Internet.
If you are paranoid, research ways to better lock down your system; additional security IS available. The more you lock down, the more inconvenient it is to use the system, and the slower it runs, so OLD hardware isn’t the best place to try to run the absolutely most secure system. Frankly though antiX is just fine for most of us poor folks! 😉
