As far as I can recall the very first version of MEPIS was similar in some ways to antiX today.
After the initial proof of concept, MEPIS, rebranded to Simply MEPIS, was one of the best and lightest, fastest implementations of the KDE (K Desktop Environment).
Once Simply MEPIS evolved into a desktop environment, I think that shortly afterwards anticapitalista contacted Warren Woodford and asked for permission to distribute antiX as a light alternative to MEPIS. Again anticapitalista is the definitive source for the details of the time and details.
