You may need the 64-bit iso with a 5 series kernel if it is a fairly new machine.
also instead of hitting the power button try …. control-alt-F2 to get a console
to run commands.
You can see if there are any errors in dmesg from the console.
sudo dmesg | grep "error"
This is to see if there are any kernel errors for the usb for the mouse.
