There was a war. That is the truth. There was a genocide. That is the truth. There were concentration camps. That is the truth. The numbers may not be precise or even inflated, but that doesn’t negate that all those horrible things happened. Being too obsessed with the numbers, be it one side or the other, doesn’t change the facts. There were not only Jews in the concentration camps, but saying that there were no Jews, or that they were not an object of hate, is just ignoring the facts.
During wars there were always prison camps, where enemies and anyone suspected as an enemy was being held. You can call them prison camps if you don’t like the word “concentration camp”, but they existed and they are there.
I think this discussion leads to nowhere. Obsessing on these things will not change the past or what the history books say. Being to obsessed in denying small things only makes those small things more important for both sides. Remembering that hate, greed for power and excessive pride leads people to commit horrible acts is more important that trying to categorize those horrible things, and we must learn to identify them before it is too late, to avoid those atrocities to happen again.
