    I tried to download Hiren’s BootCD but it would not come down for some reason, but I located an elderly boot and rescue CD in my junk box which I think has many HD utilities on, so I’ll give the disk a check. However at this stage I feel it will prove to be sane.

    I am still not sure how to invoke the cli-install option.

    Update:- There is no point looking for emergency boot CDs as there is no dvd drive on this laptop! It is very basic with just 3 USB ports, one SD port and another which I do not recognise.
