I had trouble getting into networks on my latest system because it requires a V6 kernel, so you have to go to the menu each time you boot the beta and first select the modern kernel if you have a modern system, then select the other options, and last, select which init, then start. For me, after performing these initial steps I had better success. All of this is when running live. If I decide to install this, I’ll get rid of the V5 kernels at least for my newest system.

6.6.101-antix.1-amd64-smp is the default one

Yes, I’m running the 6.6.101-antix.1-amd64-smp kernel too, but for me, when I boot, unless I explicitly set it up during boot, the Version 5 kernel is the default, not 6.6.101-antix.1-amd64-smp. Is it different for you?

I simply went for the first option at grub which uses runit and it uses 6.6.101-antix.1-amd64-smp default yes

Also, @ProwlerGr mentioned difficulty getting the right network manager running with s6. I got over that obstacle by opening a terminal tab and switching to root, then the /sbin directory, then directly invoking connmand. I did it the lazy way and kept that tab open to ensure that the daemon for Connman stays running, and I’m here with s6 –

Perhaps I am mistaken about this, but during earlier discussions I believe it was stated that we’d keep supporting sysVinit for a few more years from our current releases (antiX 23.2 versions) and move to other alternatives in antiX 25; if that’s wrong I can be corrected, but that is my recollection.

I’m liking this well enough to put it on my partition 4 on the Lenovo T14, but right now I have a really nice antiX Trixie dinit respin there; before I install I want to remaster my most recent copy of that image so I can switch back to it (maybe), depending on how well I like this AFTER I’ve installed it AND integrated my usual tools on it.

I’ve been able to get all four init working but I’ve had to “play games” explicitly starting or restarting the Connman daemon process connmand so that it functions properly with the s6 versions. Otherwise my experiences have been pretty positive, noting this and the few other quirks we are already aware of.

zramswap service doesn’t turn Status Up in Runit Service Manager
re-adding it still stays down

ufw has a ? in Status

I installed antiX 25 Beta 1 and while I’m not done configuring, I already have a few of my editing tools and my shell scripts in place and they work. I also ran:

edit] disabled ipv6 in /etc/default/ufw , but only “fixed” the “ERROR: problem running ip6tables” message. weird behavior (active+inactive) remaining.

edit2] rebooted with dinit, ufw works normally there, no issues. (running vdisk installed antiX-25-beta1 on qemu)

another issue? with runit :

same msg for any service (ufw just as an example).

Once installed, sure; in fact, after installation, at least on the system I’m using I removed the V5 kernel because the network card doesn’t recognize it.

Otherwise the 6.6.101-antix.1-amd64-smp works fine; I have it installed on another antiX installation and it works fine there too.
