Let’s wait for people advocating for base, since there may exist a need for this flavour, even when I can’t see it
Don’t get me wrong, but, if you had to use a poor wifi connection to update and upgrade a multitude of programs and tools that you never use on a Presario 2100 with Celeron CPU and 512MB (upgraded from 256MB) RAM, the experience might led you closer to my perception of the meaning of the word “waste”.
I can see the point of someone with Base needing stuff that’s on Full (ex: they find out they can’t print, or use Bluetooth or a myriad of other things). I don’t see a use case where users already have Full and think “What I really, really need is an OS with LESS capabilities”.
Obviously, I didn’t argue convincingly.
I’m sure that’s a thing in some very fringe cases when saving 100K of RAM usage is important – but I have a 1GB 32bits laptop and a 1GB 64bits sing core netbook – I’ve always ran Full on them. That’s what for me is the bare minimum to use antiX comfortably: 1 GB. With less than that you can’t use a modern GUI browser comfortably. Computers with less than 1GB of RAM in 2025 are harder and harder to find… I can probably use something with have a Gig of RAM, just for writing, for example… or listening to music, for example.
I find it comfortable enough to use Pale Moon on the mentioned (by me) above computer (not for watching videos on YouTube, of course). So, I decided to get rid of Firefox, not the computer. For me, this computer is the best proof of how “mean and lean” antiX is. Moreover, it teaches me to reduce waste as much as I can.
