Problems resolved after following Robin’s advice in post #190728. My upgrade to 23 now appears the same as that of my other system with 23 on it. I haven’t compared it to what a fresh install of 23 would have, but even if it is different, it has no obvious “broken” packages and seems to be up to date.
So, unless some problem rears its head, i consider ths a completed upgrade.
For the next upgrade (to antiX25), I will probably just do a fresh install, <g>.
I’m glad to read that your problems have been resolved; I’ve changed from version to version both ways – through upgrades and through reinstallations. When you upgrade, I believe the major release (e.g. 22 to 23) will change but in minor releases, (eg. 23.1 to 23.2) the version will not change unless you alter the files yourself; I could be wrong; if wrong, neither change unless you do so manually. However, functionally releases are equivalent when updated. Also, if you go from one Debian release to another, those versions DO change; that I can confirm based on my own recent tests. One reason I don’t recall the exact specifics on antiX releases is that I’ve changed the version numbers myself many times during manual updates, hence the reason I suspect that they typically do not change, except POSSIBLY across a MAJOR version change.
I also want to repeat one of the statements: upgraded systems are functionally equivalent to the current supported release; this does NOT apply to TEST releases; those are truly equivalent when upgraded to the final releases or release updates.
