My view (warning- likely to seem very unrealistic – sorry about that)
Unfortunately, humans have not figured out how to sustain harmonious societies.
I believe that a hundred years from now, we will have done so and brought them into existence.
Speaking only of the U.S.,
I perceive our society (and governance) as problematic because of this lack.
Specifically,
(1) We have an overwhelming percentage of voters who (a) accept the de facto two party (non)system as the way it is “spossed” to be and partially as a consequence vote NOT on the basis of careful consideration of critical issues, but instead on the basis of either party affiliation or the relative “charisma” of the two candidates,
(2) Generally we have a winner take all system in elections (where voters vote for one candidate), which discourages candidates and parties from sensibly addressing critical issues, (rather than a system where voters would score all candidates),
As a consequence, advertisements have an ENORMOUS impact on many voters, some who feel like victims, others holding negative feelings towards those with different beliefs, skin colors, or personal lifestyles.
To my mind, wars, dictators, oligarchs and wars are symbols of our inability to rear our children to get along sensibly and realistically with each other.
Hard to fix in the short term.
