What is pending to resolve from what I found while solving the above problems would be the Format USB tool, that has the same problems I found before: on antiX 26, the field for selecting the drive to format is always blank (the obvious “refresh drive list” button does nothing) and on antiX 23.2, it fails trying to format the drive with ext4 type.
Hmm! While I do not know the root cause of this, it certainly raises suspicion about the drive itself.
Formatting a partition also requires su/sudo/root rights. Make sure that when you run the tool it asks for privileged access (or you’re running from root). Otherwise, that is another reason why it is not working properly.
So to try a few more things here:
1) Make sure the Format USB tool asks for the privileged access password. If it does not and it’s not already running as root, that’s a problem.
2) Run some hardware diagnostics on your drive and your system in general to see if they report any other issues.
Based on what happens with these two operations it’ll either reveal a problem or it’s two steps to check off in your problem solving checklist. Let us know what these indicate and that may help with the next steps OR if we’re fortunate they may get you some answers.
