I’ve got a MacBook Pro A1278 running an installed version of 23.2 runit. Because of the problem @olsztyn had, I decided to test 25 B2 runit running live on it. On this MacBook it runs fine with no display problems. I realize you’ve moved on to the kernel being the problem but if you would like to have more info on this MacBook let me know.

VanceI am very familiar with this Macbook. This was the first my Macbook some years ago. I gave it to my sister in Europe about four years ago with Catalina MacOS about 4 years ago, so not able to test it with antiX. The closes Macbook I have now is from late 2012 (the same year as A1278), but with retina high resolution IPS.

Synaptic really ought to manage this location change themselves. I’ve had to manually make the changes everywhere I use synaptic, otherwise it displays this error.

Just to let you know that dinit-service-lightdm is not installable.
It needs repackaging and sent to the repos.
I see the issueUnderstood. I think…
My understanding is that adding the service files @ProwlerGr recommended has something to do with this.
I installed the new fixed service you provided and the difference I see is that the booting process ends as a blinking cursor in the top left, just as the result of creating the service file recommended by @ProwlerGr.
So, still no getting all the way to the desktop, but I figured that now the blinking cursor is in VT7, I switched to VT1 to see the familiar login prompt to login and startx to end up in the desktop on VT1.
Understandably there is something else to be done to make it work 100% of the path to desktop nirvana, which now can be now accomplished by startx, bypassing the login manager.
I sense the ultimate solution is close.
This would be great to achieve, as dinit architecture seems very interesting and seems to a degree elegant, as I am learning in the process of this problem resolution.

Remove the directory /root/. synaptic.
Beta 2 does not allow this because the root directory has 700 permission, no non root access, so I fortunately multiple boot so I mounted the Beta 2 filesystem from antiX 23.2, then I removed the directory. You could also boot live, mount the filesystem and remove /root/. synaptic remotely.--

By the way, there is no space between the /root and the .synaptic, despite the way it appears. Hopefully you will be successful in removing this old style directory for the synaptic package manager. The new location is the hidden directory .config beneath /root; there is a synaptic (no double hidden directory, it’s /root/.config/synaptic in place of /root/.synaptic).

Figured out the issue with lightdm (and other services) not loading on sysvinit.
update-rc.d script (part of init-system-helpers package) is not working (not creating links).
The 1.69.0nosystemd1 version of the init-system-helpers appears to be the culprit.
As soon as I downgraded to the 1.69~deb13u1 debian version everything works as it shouldI don’t personally see the purpose of keeping a nosystemd version of this package (doesn’t have any dependency to systemd or elogind),
so it should either be removed or rebased.@olsztyn
sudo apt -y install --allow-downgrades init-system-helpers=1.69~deb13u1 ; sudo update-rc.d lightdm defaults

Ran into an issue installing qutebrowser in a venv as per instructions on the qutebrowser page, on beta 2 nouveau. Browser does not display. First image below.
Booted into copy of antiX 23, installed qutebrowser. Display is fine. NVIDIA 535 I believe. Second image.
Booted into beta 2 NVIDIA, installed qutebrowser. Display is fine. Third image.
Installed apt qutebrowser on beta 2 nouveau, no display. Would rather have venv anyway.
Not sure how to resolve this on nouveau or alternately use NVIDIA and get the other inits to accept it.

Thanks for the tip, i had not yet considered giving that one a try. I would be in favor of removing Firefox as per previous suggestion in this thread. I agree that Mozilla seems to be on a worrisome trajectory, which at least to me is not consistent with how I want my computing experience and with the reasons I am on antiX.

Using MX installed on the same device, could find no such file in root.
There was only usb-storage [hidden files]
Tried a file search with nothing found.
