I am trying to install the x32 version to hard drive. No UEFI
Installation was good, but failed at the GRUB stage.
I tried both default runit and sysV.
Both times fail at grub stage.

Try restarting connman through the runit service manager gui & see if it fixes it for you

On to testing
The symbolic link ‘/usr/share/runit/sv.now/rc.local/supervise’ could not be created: Not a directory
keeps appearing, this time while setting up scanning.Except for some icons and the grey on white symbols in some applications the setup is working nicely
Using runit and Rox ICEWM presently.dinit booted and ran well but UFW and Cups were absent, will play more with that tomorrow as the situation
may have changed due a ton of freshly installed packages.I have removed LibreOffice, it crashed often, fresh version is in sid. Version from Libreoffice

My impression of antiX 25 Beta2 after my first round of testing:
What works great at this point:
– Expanded support for WiFi firmware. Even broadcom-sta-dkms is pre-installed to support popular Broadcom chips on older laptops, which are known for reliability. Works great on my large variety of Broadcom chips, from variety of Thinkpad laptops to three Apple Macbooks Pro (from 2012 to 2015).
– Support for much larger than in Beta1 variety of printers. I tested six of my network printers and all installed and worked fine. One left, but not expected to have problems either.
– VPN tested to work fine. Network stable.
– All my key applications as installed in antiX 23, installed with no issue on antiX 25 Beta2. This worked fine in Beta1, so no change.What remains for me as not perfect yet:
– Notification of inserted usb device (not mounted, just inserted) is not popping up on ‘Removable Media’ plugin on LXQT-panel. It worked fine in Beta1, so I need to figure out what is missing.
– dbus-daemon process seems duplicated as shows in the task manager, although dbus-session-launch is defined as ‘TRUE’ in desktop-session.conf. Not sure why it is duplicated, because in antiX 23 a sigle instance of this process was sufficient.
– It appears to me that a normal shutdown does not leave the boot drive in a completely clean state, as running fsck on it often results in ‘Recovering Journal’ But this behavior is not specific to Beta2. More testing needed though.Overall, antiX 25 Beta2 seems very solid in runit instance. Runs great. I will proceed to test other init instances next…

I haven’t booted from dvd for years so have no idea what the boot menu looks like.

I ran into an interesting “issue”, one that’s been bothering me from time to time, even in antiX 23.2 and certainly in antiX 25 Beta 2, and I’m not sure why: our Live USB Maker has not been consistently allowing me to create our read-write images; yesterday in fact I resorted to allowing it to create using the dd method because I simply wanted an ISO snapshot to be written to USB but I’d prefer to have it read/write.
Any insight on what I may have incorrectly handled in our supported release and our Beta testing to cause this? Curiously I’ve still been able, at least until recently, to use MX Linux to build the writable Live USB using their instance. This suggests that I may have something configured wrong; otherwise we have a defect that limits some scenarios to work. What can I dig into to figure out if I’ve set something incorrectly or disturbed the configuration? If nothing, then some diagnosis is needed.
I DID create the snapshot, but it’s only the dd style because of an error that was generated. I can try it again if necessary to either describe or share an image of what’s happening.

Now I am running the third install. antiX-25-b2 seems to be quite fragile.
All installs have been in Qemu with efi boot.The first install got caught in an endless loop, while I was setting the user language in JWM.
When after half an hour the system still did not respond I closed the VM.
After reboot JWM was broken – no windows, no menu.
IceWM and Fluxbox were still ok, but when I switched to JWM, the system showed no response to keyboard and mouse again.In the second install another problem showed up – in JWM again. Suddenly the application menu was gone.
So I checked /usr/share/desktop-menu/.jwm/menu-applications
The file was there but it was empty. I have no idea, how and why this happened.
I had not done any critical operation – only some settings and installing/deinstalling software.
When I tried to fix it, JWM broke again, but this time it was my fault.Now the third install is running. I now use Fluxbox instead of JWM. So far I have not encountered further problems.
Sound:
ALSA sound is best with audacious and ok with xine and mpv.
But celluloid sounds unclean and has hiccups.Pipewire sound is less clear and somehow distorted with all of them.
Audacious and xine have only a few hiccups, mpv has some more.
Celluloid sounds terrible with pipewire.I have used Radio Swiss Classic aacPlus stream (96 kbps) for sound testing:

Installing runit-service-acpid results in error. Service acpid is up already,perhaps in ‘older’ style, but runit-service-acpid install fails even when acpid service is down.
So I have a general question:
My understanding (perhaps incorrect) is that runit-service-xxxx aare new style services architected by @ProwlerGr and @anticapitalista. If these are not yet installed, I think the old style services are up running.
